Abstract

In this study, the development and design of an innovative double-flash geothermal power plant (DFGPP) integrated with transcritical carbon dioxide (tCO2) Rankine cycle (RC), Kalina cycle (KC), desalination plant, and H2 generation are carried out. The tCO2-RC is a reheat cycle in which the working fluid is reheated after the high-pressure turbine to produce more energy in the low-pressure CO2 turbine. The desalination process is a reverse osmosis (RO) type, and the H2 is generated from a PEM electrolyzer. The main goal of the research is to investigate the operational performance of the integrated system in terms of thermodynamics aspects. Furthermore, parametric analyses are also conducted in order to investigate the main system parameters on the system effectiveness, such as geothermal water temperature, flashing pressure, tCO2-RC pressures, RO inlet temperature, etc. From the outputs, it can be concluded that the combination of various processes with geothermal energy is promisingly feasible.
