Vocational high schools, which were established with the purpose of training qualified intermediate staff, make considerable contribution to the development of industry. Technical teachers working at vocational high schools have huge responsibility for the vocational high schools to provide an effective and efficient education. As technical teachers are social beings at the end; they can get alienated to their professions for some reasons. In this study the level of vocational alienation of technical teachers working at vocational high schools has been examined as well as whether alienation shows any difference according to some variables. The study was conducted in 2010-2011 academic year at Industrial Vocational and Multi-Program High Schools under the authority of Male Students Technical Education Directorate General in provincial centre and other districts of Izmir. "Personal Information Form" and "Vocational Alienation Survey" prepared by researchers were applied to the participants with the purpose of gathering data. The collected data was analyzed with SPSS program. Vocational alienation was calculated and approved that the alienation existed at low levels. It was found out that alienation varied depending on the level of education, years in service, whether the teachers chose this career willingly or not, economic status, satisfaction with working environment, and taking part in social and scientific events. © Sila Science.
