In this work, 2-(5-methylpyridine-2-yl)imidazole was synthesized to perform a fluorescence sensing system depending on the imidazole derivative as a sensor for Cu2+. According to the required measurements, the imidazole derivative was shown to be used as a sensing agent for Cu2+ with the low detection limit of 1.70 µM and quantitation limit of 5.65 µM. Binding ratio was found as 1:1 by using Job's plot. To present the interactions of copper ions and EDTA with the target sensor, 1H NMR titration measurements were done. Logic gate applications in the presence of EDTA and Cu2+ were investigated. When three outputs (at 372 nm, 395 nm and 418 nm) were examined in 24 cases of the two inputs (Cu2+ and EDTA), three different logic gates were obtained as XNOR, IMPLICATION and INHIBIT, respectively.
