Abstract

Comparison of the Centroid, Center of Gravity, Newton, Bruce, Huber, and Smalian formulae for predicting log volumes of three species in Turkey showed the Newton, Center of Gravity, and Centroid methods were clearly superior to the other formulae. The accuracy of all methods, as indicated by Chi-square accuracy tests, ranged from Newton, Center of Gravity, Centroid, Huber, Bruce to Smalian's formula which performed the poorest. © Forest Products Society 2006.
