Abstract

Tourism industry is an industry where people travel from one place to another for a number of purposes such as sightseeing, curiosity, rest, entertainment; and it involves catering to the needs of the people such as foods and drinks, accommodation, transportation, etc. Since the focus of this industry is the touristic customer experience, this encompasses a number of important and interrelated areas such as tourist satisfaction and wellbeing, incentives for tourism establishments, and destination management along with environmental issues; Industry 4.0 Era should have important effects on tourism industry as well. With that in mind, in this chapter, we will first explain the historical development of Industry 4.0 in terms of tourism industry, and then give information role and future of smartness, information systems, and virtual and augmented reality applications. It is hoped that this information will provide beneficial for the reader in this context.
