In field studies conducted to examine the causes of destruction and advanced damage after earthquakes, it has been revealed that one of the main sources of destruction in buildings in all other major earthquakes is the plain (unribbed) reinforcements placed in the reinforced concrete elements in the wrong diameter and number. This situation in the reinforcements affected the concrete strength negatively and caused many structures to collapse or to receive heavy damage. For this purpose, the change caused by the reinforcement in the seismic ultrasonic velocities of the low strength reinforced and unreinforced specimens with different strength properties was examined. In this context, seismic ultrasonic longitudinal-P and transverse-S wave measurements were taken and the results were compared with each other. Then, strength values were determined by applying uniaxial compression test and compared with the results obtained from the seismic ultrasonic velocities. Accordingly, in low-strength concretes, as the reinforcement diameter increases, the concrete strength increases, but the seismic ultrasonic P and S wave velocities decrease due to the decrease in the contact surface between the concrete and the reinforcement.
