The effect of induction hardening and boronising on the wear behaviour of GGG70 grade spheroidal graphite cast iron was experimentally investigated under dry sliding conditions. The boronising of the samples was carried out in a solid medium using the powder pack method while induction hardening of the samples was carried out at 1000 Hz for 10 s. The wear tests using a pin-on-disc machine showed that the boronising treatment improved the wear behaviour of graphite cast iron specimens compared to induction hardened graphite cast iron as a result of increased surface hardness. Boronising was found to be a highly effective surface hardening method for achieving high wear properties in GGG-70 grade spheroidal graphite cast iron.
