Fast fashion and fast production processes, which ignore issues such as sustainable environment, worker rights, and designer labor, have brought many problems to them. The damage to the pellet in natural fiber production, chemical wastes that do not dissolve in nature for years as a result of not limiting the production and disposal of synthetic fiber, and the huge clothing garbage dumps left by international fashion brands to nature after overproduction can be counted among the damages caused by the textile and fashion industry to the environment and therefore to humans. While environmental destruction is at the forefront of irresponsible production problems, employee rights and socio-economic problems are waiting to be solved. Overwhelmed by the heavy fashion cycle, consumers and manufacturers have become aware of the socio-cultural and environmental damage of fast fashion. Many designers and brands are looking for new, fairer, and constructive ways to get out of these destructive wheels of fast fashion. Sustainable fashion leads to the observance of the rights of the rings of each of these chains and the development of consumption habits that include a sustainable environmental understanding by reviving local economies. Main research questions of this study (1) Why is sustainable fashion design important? (2) What are the driving forces, theoretical framework, and implementation processes of sustainable fashion design? (3) How is sustainable fashion design exemplified in textile and fashion design? In this article, the aim is to create a conceptual framework for sustainable fashion design, which is new to its practitioners and whose boundaries and principles are not clearly defined. The applications of the sustainable fashion design approach created in the sector were examined based on bag products. In the light of all these researches, in the application part of the article, it is aimed to realize the sustainable bag design process and the conceptual and technical dimensions of a design. In this study, the scope and application areas of sustainable fashion design were examined by scanning the domestic and foreign literature. Research shows that the sustainable fashion design approach is adopted and implemented by many conscious designers and brands. Many national and international brands and designers produce inspiring designs using different techniques of sustainable fashion. Sustainable design and production techniques are presented with visual support for bag-size examinations. In light of the processes examined, an original and creative sustainable bag design was made. Material selection, design approach, and production processes in bag design are discussed in terms of sustainability. Sustainable bag design is explained in detail with flow chart and process steps. It has been observed that the use of unused, valuable, or traditional textile materials in bag design transforms into a new, unique, and sustainable value. The conceptual dimension of sustainable fashion design and its application processes is aimed at taking the subject one step further and shedding light on those who will work in this field.
