Biography

Prof. Dr. Zeynep Ekmekçi is a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Technology, Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Türkiye. She currently serves as the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and as the Coordinator of the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (BAP).

Prof. Ekmekçi received her bachelor's degree in Secondary Science and Mathematics Education from Gazi University. She earned both her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in the Department of Chemistry at Middle East Technical University (METU). She began her academic career as a research assistant at METU, later joined Süleyman Demirel University, and became a faculty member at Isparta University of Applied Sciences in 2018. She has held the rank of Full Professor since 2022. Between 2009 and 2010, she also conducted research at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA.

Her research interests focus on organic chemistry, photochemistry, fluorescent and molecular sensors, BODIPY-based dyes, molecular logic gates, and the design and synthesis of novel photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy. Her work particularly emphasizes the development of selective chemical sensors, the design of singlet oxygen-generating molecules, and the synthesis of functional organic compounds for biomedical applications.

Prof. Ekmekçi has published extensively in prestigious international journals, including ChemistrySelect, Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry, Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, Journal of Fluorescence, Tetrahedron Letters, and Chemical Physics. She has served as both principal investigator and researcher in numerous projects funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK), conducting innovative research in photodynamic therapy, molecular logic gates, and chemical sensors.

Throughout her academic career, Prof. Ekmekçi has received national awards for her scientific publications. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in biomaterials engineering, advanced organic chemistry, and general chemistry, while conducting interdisciplinary research that integrates biomedical engineering with chemistry.
